For us, it was always a concern that we keep our rabbits possible animal welfare. For these reasons our meat rabbit grow up in groups since the 1990s. During this time, the public had little interest in higher welfare rabbit. Our belief was already at that time focused on an animal husbandry and animal welfare was paramount.
With the cooperation of Coop Switzerland at the end of the 1990s we had the opportunity to develop and build a new system that is still nowhere in Europe because the demand of Coop was clear from the beginning that Swiss rabbit must be higher welfare. This Means that we made the first steps with the group of farmed breeding rabbits in the turn of the millennium. After countless discussions with ethologist and the various federal agencies, we have our stables rebuilt again and adapted to the latest findings and so the present system has emerged over the years.
The result is today's Kani-Swiss GmbH, which was founded of 2004. At the present time we kill with our 10 full and part-time employees 3,500 rabbits per week. we supply all animals at Coop in accordance with the attitude of BTS (particularly animal-friendly stabling). Because the consumer today is interested in higher welfare and we are with our operating the trend of the time. We are also convinced that we can generate a steady growth in the coming years, always with the aim to improve our livestock for the purposes of animal welfare.
"My wife and I are proud to have been nominated for the Good Rabbit Award. This affords us the strength and energy to work for the rabbits and their wellbeing. We are aware that the process will never be completed and so continually strive for improving animal welfare. This award inspires our visions and ideas for what we will implement in terms of animal welfare in the coming years."
