Danone announces global cage-free egg commitment

Danone has made a commitment to source only cage-free eggs for all its food products worldwide by 2019. This includes shell eggs and eggs used as ingredients directly sourced or sold by the company.
Compassion has been working in partnership with the Danone Group on its global animal welfare strategy for a number of years. Last year, Danone’s baby food division Nutricia Early Life Nutrition was awarded a Good Egg Award for committing to source only cage-free egg ingredients for its products.
Compassion welcomes this latest decision, and particularly its ambitious scope. To date, over 40% of the eggs used by Danone come from cage-free hens, and we will continue to work closely with them to ensure they successfully convert the remaining part of their global egg supply to cage-free production.
Amélie Legrand, Senior Food Business Manager for Compassion in France said: “Danone’s global commitment to source exclusively cage-free eggs and egg products has the potential to benefit the lives of a huge number of laying hens across the globe.
"With this decision, Danone upholds a leading position in improving farm animal welfare across its supply chain. We applaud them for this commitment and look forward to continuing to support them in their ambitious journey.”
