On World Animal Day (4th October), French retailer Schiever announced its renewed commitment to improve the welfare of broilers in its supply by signing up to the Better Chicken Commitment (BCC).
Schiever had already received a Good Chicken Award from Compassion in 2016 for taking steps to improve the rearing condition of broilers across its fresh chicken supply.
This latest pledge has broadened out the scope of their welfare commitment to introduce all the BCC criteria by 2024 for all the fresh, frozen and processed chicken (products containing more than 50% chicken) sold under Schiever's own brand.
Compassion applauds this latest commitment for broilers, which highlights the importance the retail group places on farm animal welfare in its strategy.
Schiever has also been recognised with the following awards from Compassion on their journey to improve the welfare of hens, calves and rabbits: Good Egg Award (2015); Good Rabbit Commendation (2017); Good Calf Award (2020).
