Compassion’s biennial Supermarket Survey will open for entry from the 10th January until the 8th April 2022.
The Survey, which started in 2001, is a unique benchmarking tool that helps supermarket retailers understand how they compare against their peers on farm animal welfare policies, practices and performance.
The 2022 iteration of the survey introduces 2 levels of questions: core and in-depth. The core questions are a reduced set of questions focusing on key animal welfare topics. The in-depth questions are more comprehensive, covering a wider range of topics. Participants can choose which set of questions they answer.
Each participating retailer will receive a confidential report. Companies that only answer the core questions will receive a report analysing their answers and some general recommendations. Those that complete both the core and in-depth questions will get a more comprehensive analysis of their answers along with bespoke recommendations.
The survey is completed through an online platform and we encourage participants to complete as much of the survey as possible in order to get the most value from the benchmarking.
The survey is free of charge and participants’ data is kept strictly confidential and all data included in the feedback reports is anonymised.
Retailer Awards
Participation in the Supermarket Survey gives retailers the chance to be considered for our Retailer Awards which will be presented at our Good Farm Animal Welfare Awards next summer:
- Best Retailer Award – awarded to the top-performing retailer in the Supermarket Survey.
- Best Retailer Marketing Award – awarded to the retailer that provides the best example of delivering a successful consumer marketing campaign to communicate farm animal welfare, higher welfare products and/or communicating the need to reduce meat, eggs and dairy consumption. (This is a panel-based award.)
- Best Retailer Innovation Award – awarded to the retailer that provides the best example of a successful project or innovation that has delivered measurable benefits to the lives of farm animals. (This is a panel-based award.)
